Sri Akkalkot Swami Samarth Maharaj
Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj is lovingly revered as a great spiritual master of the Dattatreya tradition. He is also known as Sri Akkalkot Swami Samarth and Vat Vruksha Swami, names that hold deep spiritual meaning for devotees. His life and presence continue to inspire faith, courage, and inner strength in the hearts of millions.
According to sacred tradition, Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj is regarded as the continuation of the fifteenth-century incarnation of Lord Dattatreya, Shrimad Narasimha Saraswati. It is mentioned in the holy text Shri Gurucharitra that Shrimad Narasimha Saraswati entered Maha Samadhi in the Kardali forests in the year 1458. He remained in deep samadhi for more than three hundred years, beyond ordinary human awareness.
Tradition holds that, by divine will, this prolonged samadhi concluded and the same spiritual presence re-emerged to continue the Guru’s work in the form known as Shri Swami Samarth. The name Vat Vruksha Swami symbolizes timelessness, protection, and continuity, much like the sacred banyan tree (Vat Vruksha), which offers shelter and stability across generations. After emerging from samadhi, Shri Swami Samarth travelled across various parts of the country before finally settling in Akkalkot.
Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj eventually settled in Akkalkot, where he lived for nearly twenty-two years. His way of life reflected the nature of an avadhoota—free from social conventions, inwardly absorbed, and established in divine awareness. At times silent and at times direct, his guidance always aligned with the inner needs of those who approached him.
He treated all people equally, without distinction of religion, status, or background. His teachings emphasized living spiritual values in daily life—patience, humility, sincere action, and steady remembrance of the Divine. Rather than encouraging outward display, he guided seekers toward inner purity and self-realization.
In 1878, Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj consciously entered Maha Samadhi in Akkalkot. Devotees remember that he offered assurance of his continued presence, expressing that sincere remembrance would always receive guidance and protection. This assurance remains deeply rooted in the hearts of devotees even today.
Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj—also revered as Vat Vruksha Swami—is remembered not only as a saint of the past, but as an enduring spiritual presence. For devotees, he remains a source of courage, stability, and inner strength, symbolizing the timeless Guru principle that transcends time and form.

” भिऊ नकोस मी तुझ्या पाठिशी आहे. ”

निशंक होई रे मना,निर्भय होई रे मना।
प्रचंड स्वामीबळ पाठीशी, नित्य आहे रे मना।
अतर्क्य अवधूत हे स्मर्तुगामी,
अशक्य ही शक्य करतील स्वामी ।।१।।
जिथे स्वामीचरण तिथे न्युन्य काय,
स्वये भक्त प्रारब्ध घडवी ही माय।
आज्ञेवीना काळ ही ना नेई त्याला,
परलोकी ही ना भीती तयाला
अशक्य ही शक्य करतील स्वामी ।।२।।
उगाची भितोसी भय हे पळु दे,
वसे अंतरी ही स्वामीशक्ति कळु दे।
जगी जन्म मृत्यु असे खेळ ज्यांचा,
नको घाबरू तू असे बाळ त्यांचा

खरा होई जागा श्रद्धेसहित,
कसा होसी त्याविण तू स्वामिभक्त।
आठव! कितीदा दिली त्यांनीच साथ,
नको डगमगु स्वामी देतील हात

विभूति नमननाम ध्यानार्दी तीर्थ,
स्वामीच या पंचामृतात।
हे तीर्थ घेइ आठवी रे प्रचिती,
ना सोडती तया, जया स्वामी घेती हाती ।।५।।
